What Is Blogging?
Over the past few years, blogs have exploded in popularity. However, you may have heard the term and you may even have read a few blogs, without truly understanding it. So, what is blogging exactly?
It is almost hard to imagine a time when blogs didn’t exist or were relatively obscure. But now, there are so many people blogging. There are websites that give you a blog for free. And, there are ways to have a blog on your own domain that are inexpensive. For example. WordPress, a popular blog platform, is free to install and easy to use.
The “Blog” Definded
For starters, “blog” is short for “web log”. It is basically a collection of things (stories, articles, pictures, rants, videos, etc) that are published in the same place. If you notice, blogs are arranged by date where the most recent posts appear at the top. This gives us a “diary” feel. However, a blog can be about absolutely anything.
Who can blog?
Absolutely anyone can have a blog. There are free platforms like Blogger.com and WordPress.com. It’s also easy to buy a domain, find hosting, and set up a blog yourself. I personally like that method the best because it gives you more creative control.
A Blog is what you Want it to Be
The fun thing about having a blog is that it could be about whatever you want. You can make it personal and show glimpses of your family life, vent, share a vacation, etc. It can be informative and about a subject that you enjoy. Or, you can have a blog for the sole reason of making money. The possibilities are endless.
So, what is blogging? It is basically a website where the content is refreshed often. The newest posts are on the top and the older ones fall to the bottom of the page and eventually get archived. And, the subject could be just about anything.
